About the drink
The Old Fashioned is a cocktail made by muddling sugar with bitters, adding whiskey and garnishing with a twist of citrus rind. It is traditionally served in an old fashioned glass (also known as rocks glass), which predated the cocktail. It was developed during the 19th century and given its name in the 1880s.
Ingredients
- Whiskey tumbler
- 45 ml Bourbon or Rye whiskey
- 4 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 sugar cube
- Dash of soda
Method
- Chill glass with ice cubes or soda
- Place sugar cube in old fashioned glass and saturate with bitters, add a dash soda
- Muddle until dissolved
- Fill the glass with 2 ice cubes and add whiskey
- Stir with bar spoon for about 40 seconds
